How to Maintain a Rate Connect Campaign during the COVID-19 Crisis

The COVID-19 pandemic has thrust the hotel industry into an unprecedented situation, leaving many hoteliers to wonder about how to accurately adjust their marketing strategies and put themselves in the best position as they prepare for the return of travel.

We don’t want you to feel like you are in this alone when it comes to navigating your Rate Connect campaign during the crisis. That’s why we’ve put together our top FAQs on how to maintain and optimize your campaign through these uncertain times.

Should I lower my budget?

Since you only pay for clicks with Rate Connect, you don’t need to lower your budget. As the affected markets have low to no activity, getting irrelevant clicks in those markets is unlikely.

If you want to ensure that your budget won’t be consumed during this time, you don’t need to lower it to zero. You should rather pause your campaign and leave your budget at its normal limit, so that when you resume your campaign it will still be in place.

How do I pause my campaign?

You can pause your campaign by clicking the Pause Campaign button found in the Settings tab. When your campaign is paused, your direct rate won’t appear on trivago and your budget won’t be consumed.

How do I resume my campaign?

You can resume your campaign at any time by clicking the Resume Campaign button found in the Settings tab. After you’ve successfully resumed your campaign, take a minute to review the Budget and Markets tabs to ensure that your chosen settings are up-to-date.

How can I optimize my campaign as markets continue to fluctuate?

Markets will be recovering at different speeds, so it’s important to react quickly to these changes to make sure that your direct rates are visible when travelers are ready to book again.

Rate Connect recently launched a feature that enables you to do this without having to do any of the hard work. By turning on automated market selection, your campaign will dynamically target the recovering markets with the highest value for your campaign.

How do I enable automated market selection?

First, go to the Markets tab and you’ll find automated market selection at the top of the page. To enable it, simply toggle the button to the right of the feature description.
