Let the show begin!

Tradeshows are incredible to behold. Especially travel and tourism related ones. They’re chalked full of energy, new people, and memorable experiences not to mention incredible visuals. The bigger they are, the better. This week I’m at ITB Berlin, the world’s leading travel trade show. I will be writing to you from the Berlin Messe conference hall each day, documenting the show, the new opportunities, and industry insights.

Shows like ITB Berlin can make all the difference when it comes to the success of your business as well. All it takes is meeting the right person or learning about a new tool that’s going to revolutionise your hotel business. If you’re at the show, come visit us in Hall 9 – Stand 317 and you’ll see what we mean.

Ok, here’s what happened today at ITB Berlin…

We boarded our bus from Alexanderplatz and headed to ITB Berlin. For many of us, this morning was the first time that we got to see the true monumentality of this year’s 50th anniversary show. The stands are bigger and better and the rooms are full of opportunity. Almost as soon as we arrived, we prepped the coffee stations, set up the bar (read: which we are enjoying now) and stocked the shelves with prizes and vouchers for hoteliers.

The team’s enthusiasm coupled with the atmosphere of  ITB just added to our anticipation for the show to start. We’re also on an exciting mission here: To teach hoteliers everything we know about metasearch marketing and how it impacts the hotel business. Our aim is to help independent hotels and chains improve their profiles and boost their rank. And we couldn’t wait to get started.

As 10:00 am approached, the show was already bustling. As we are located in Hall 9, the Travel Technology Hall, hoteliers and experts alike could be seen going from booth to booth discussing the latest solutions for their business. In the other rooms, destination marketers, hotel chains and influencers were talking about anything and everything travel.  Some of us joined them in discussions on the latest in hotel marketing, social media and tourism trends. At the same time, our dedicated hotel representatives were busy meeting with hoteliers directly at our booth to discuss their business.

We’re meeting hotel managers big and small, from the beautiful shores of the Aegean to the heart of America and everywhere in between. And that’s what we love most about events like this. Here we’re able to teach hoteliers how they can upgrade their hotel profiles with ease to drive more guests to their  properties. Together, we’re talking about trends in the way that travellers book accommodations as well as shifts in the way independent hoteliers manager and advertise their properties with new technology.

Our Direct Connect team has been busy today working with hotel chains to do just that. Jill, an Account Manager with the team was discussing what ITB means to her, and we’d love to share her sentiments with you here.

She said, “It’s a great place to connect: Hotel chains, hotel technology, innovation… it is all coming together here. It’s becoming one. And that’s what ITB Berlin is all about. It’s about working together, inspiring change and leveraging like-minds and technological innovations to connect travel and tourism businesses with each other and ultimately with more travellers.  This is where industry change happens and it’s incredible to be a part of it.”

It’s been a whirlwind of learning and meeting hoteliers, chains and travel companies alike today. Now we’re kicking up our feet with the best of them to have a nice cold beer. This evening we’re headed to the ITB hospitality industry event to kick off  day one at ITB. More updates to come tomorrow. If you’ll be at the show tomorrow, please introduce yourself to us in Hall 9 – Stand 317.
